Craters of the Moon National Monument, ID - May 1 - 3
Our second time visiting here, this time we got a spot in the campground. We were greeted with a beautiful covering of snow that melted shortly after it landed.
- North Crater Trail -
Salmon, ID
From Craters of The Moon, we took a day trip through Challis to Salmon. The drive was stunning. We saw many bald eagles, some perched, and some flying over the river. We also got to see a grizzly bear in the distance on the mountain. We watched it through binoculars, and saw it walking, sitting, standing on its hind legs, and scratching its back on a tree trunk.
Stanley, ID - May 4 - 8
Stanley is a unique town north of Ketchum (Sun Valley), and dubbed as the coldest place in the United States. Most people live here part time during the summer months, only a couple of stores are open year round. It snowed a couple of inches everyday that we were there.
Hailey, ID - May 8 - 11
On the property where we stayed, we had views of mountains in every direction from Solas.
We took a popular local hike, and part of the trail overlooks the town.

This place is part of the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area, which is the longest name we have encountered so far.
Mountain View Campground, Boise, ID - May 13 - 14
We took advantage of a pre-season deal: free camping in the national forest!
Garden Valley, ID - May 14
We were stunned by the lushness, beauty, and steepness of the cliffs on our drive through Garden Valley.
Little Payette Lake, McCall, ID - May 14 - 15
This was public land camping. We loved the spot we got right next to the stream.
Bend, OR - May 16 - 18
We had a fun day in the city of Bend. We walked around, shopped, ate, and saw a movie at the unique McMenamins Theater. We spent the next day in nature, and hiked to Tumalo Falls.
Hood River, OR - May 18
A very scenic, hilly and steep city where the Hood River meets the Columbia River. There were a bunch of windsurfers on the water, and for the first time we saw kites that were larger than vehicles.
Washington Park, Portland, OR - May 19
We liked walking around the rose garden. It was also nice that the rhododendrons were in bloom.
Columbia River Hwy, Corbett, OR - May 20
This super windy road offers some stunning views. It was built to attract tourists to the area. And then the interstate was built and they lost the "Sunday Drivers" to the fast highway. There are several waterfalls along the road.
- Bridal Veil Falls -
- Horsetail Falls -
- Multnomah Falls -
Darby Creek, PA - May 28
From WA all the way to PA. We flew across the country for a family wedding.
The last time we were visiting Philly in December the bridge at Sycamore Creek was under construction. This time we actually got to walk over it.

Franny and Allyson's Wedding, Quakertown, PA - May 30 - 31
We have such a good time at our family weddings, especially since we have never lived near family, it always involves travel and time to visit.
